Squid, Apache 2 and FC4

Anyone out there using Squid as a web accelerator or reverse proxy? Before I attempt to reinvent the wheel, I was curious about how you accessed site if to the "outside" world it's the same IP address? In other words, I have two webservers behind my wireless router and I only have two ports forwarded from the Internet to them (one for each server). I thought it would be "better" if I used squid instead and eliminated one of the forwarded ports. But how do I access the URL from the outside world? None of the documentation I've read on Squid has gone into that workflow process. Any suggestions would be great! -- Thanks very much, Jon Moss jon.moss(a)cnonline.net

Helpdesk position open

As of 12/30/05 there will be an opening for a contractor junior level Helpdesk Technician at the USDA in Kansas City, MO. I will be getting more details and requirements soon, but basically you need troubleshooting skills, phone etiquette and customer service skills, and at least a little bit of experience with XP and Office. 1500 user location and you will work in a secure windowless room. The techs trade off working on the floor resolving tickets and this position will most likely be concentrated on inventory. Interviews will start by next week most likely. Not the greatest of jobs, but a foot in the door to get more experience. Definitely better than unemployment. :)

Serverworks makes awesome chipsets, but you talked about doing Raid. You might want the second board with the built-in Raid option. The only problem I see with your second board is the Marvell NIC chipset. Not saying they are all bad, but I had lots of problems with a couple of models of Gateway computers with Marvell NICs. Check to see if there are any Linux driver problems with those. Thinkpad T23 memory?

Just wondering if anyone in the lug would have some 256MB or 512MB 144pin pc133 sodimms I could use to upgrade my newly acquired T23. Description said 256MB and of course it arrives with 2 /128MB instead of 1/256 and 1/available slot Rats....Cheap would be great, free would be awesome!!! I seem to recall Bill saying he had a whole pile of old memory laying around. I'll be at next tuesday's meeting.... Thanks

howto build a 1u linux box w/ hotswap SATA - info and info request...

any suggestions on specific parts for this? Basically what I need is: Pref AMD X2 although Intel is 'ok' 2 SATAII hot swap - or at least external bay removable - these will be mirrored <maybe 3 drives and Raid5 - suggestions?> <possibly the boot drive in a bay also> 10/100/1000 Ethernet 1 gig RAM some basic onboard video costs? Any suggestions for alternatives are also welcome. This is going to be a colo box for some basic web hosting, email and a bit of ASP(app service provider). The 1U is based on the cost of colo space. also... All linux raid or mobo hw raid? get a separate card? what is the decision criteria? With what types of Raid (kernel, mobo, card) is it possible boot off the raid vs need a boot drive Any suggestions on colo space and costs? all hardware needs to run under linux kernel 2.6 FYI: I need to get the hardware purchased very soon.
