Still no sound out of Amarok. It acts like it is playing though.

I have Kubuntu Dapper 6.06 AMD64 at home and have loaded/ran Easyubuntu in order to get added repos, multimedia, etc. I have system sounds working and I get audio and video from a DVD playing in the drive, but .mp3 files give no sound when played in Amarok. Crweb had me install some lib stuff that should have added support, but "w32codecs" said it had no installation target, like it had changed it's name. He linked me to a .deb, which wouldn't install because it was meant for i386 and not x64. Not sure where to start with this, but at least I am NOT high jacking another thread!!! (grin) I have been having trouble viewing media files in Email. I get a lot of stuff from friends and family that has audio or video files, and I would like to be able to play an occasional MP3 file but none of that seems to work and I can't find any reference to what works well now. I upgraded to FC4 a few months ago and have been too busy to do a full investigation so a few pointers would be really helpful. I am running the Mozilla suite for Email and surfing and have installed flash and adobe, but not sure what works best for audio and video. What is everyone using these days and what is the best way to install it so I don't spend days buggering something else up? .//

I would like to announce the start of a new asterisk user group here in Kansas City. Right now it's primarly just a mailing list, but if there is enough interest we will probably start doing meetings and the like. You can find information about the group at http://www.kcaug.net/. If you are completely unfamilier with Asterisk here's a snippet from asterisk.org: Asterisk is a complete PBX in software. It runs on Linux, BSD and MacOSX and provides all of the features you would expect from a PBX and more. Asterisk does voice over IP in many protocols, and can interoperate with almost all standards-based telephony equipment using relatively inexpensive hardware. Features Asterisk provides Voicemail services with Directory, Call Conferencing, Interactive Voice Response and Call Queuing. It has support for three-way calling, caller ID services, ADSI, SIP and H.323 (as both client and gateway). Check the Features section for a more complete list. Go ahead and sign up on the list if you are at all in running asterisk at home or where you work! Thanks, Kyle

Here's the specs: IBM Netfinity 5500 Dual PIII-Xeon 500Mhz Processors (Quad Capable) 2GB RAM 6 9GB U160 SCSI Drives IBM ServeRAID RAID Adapter 20/40GB DLT Tape Drive CDROM Dual power supplies Only Caveat: Server weights approximately 110lbs, and whoever wants it must come pick it up in Olathe. :) Email me with questions, pickup dates/times, etc. Rich

Speaking as the guy everyone here seems to be going to for authoritative instructions, I am entirely and completely thrilled with Andrew's work on the kc.pm.org web site, especially with the way it has been refactored to not require continuous maintenance. -- David L Nicol E-mail is legendarily opaque to nuance and it becomes less so only with continuous honest feedback.

The mailing list described at kc.pm.org still works (i believe it is subscriber-post and archived at GMANE) although the web site itself is so old the spiders have died in their webs. We met at planet sub in June and discussed meeting again in July.
