Ok folks, here's a mindset wrench. CAN we make a set of fallbacks to allow a certain minimal function allowing a potential "panic" to seek external help? This help could come from either defaults designed to establish a session with human agents or some AI mimic. Starting from the point I have left us at where it is taken as not arguable that a Knoppix concept routine set CAN establish a remote session and functional remote console interface, then the external intelligence hopefully could complete the Linux install. Recommendations for sub-$300 standards-based inkjet printer?

I just got a nice job with Everest Cable (sadly I do not live in an apartment complex served by Everest) so with the income coming in I will be able to get a replacement printer. The current HP color inkjet printer got knocked off its shelf by some cats, and now only prints in black ink. Someone mentioned that it was a good idea to get a standards-based printer rather than something served by HPLIP. In about three weekly paychecks (temp-to-perm in 90 days) I'll have about $200-$300 to spend on a new printer. "Attempted" Copyright Infringement may be illegal soon.

Proposed Crime of the Century: Attempted Copyright Infringement http://www.wired.com/politics/law/news/2007/05/ippa07 Back in May 2007 Attorney General Alberto Gonzales suggested a new bill that would make "attempted copyright infringement" a crime, punishable by up to life in prison. He would need a sponsor in the House or Senate to make Congress consider it, and I don't know if anyone has agreed to sponsor it yet. This is a really scary law, considering how many currently innocuous activities (such as having a spindle of blank CDs next to your computer) could be made into serious criminal offenses. VMWare was not a solution because I'd still have to run out and buy a copy of Windows XP to run on top of Linux in VMWare. More likely these days I'd have to buy Vista instead, and then there's the learning curve of figuring out how to install and use Vista on top of taking the test. WINE might have been a solution except that I was dealing with some sort of proprietary Windows solution. Usually with WINE you have some sort of indication from the WINE folks or from message boards whether or not a given application will run in WINE (IE, Microsoft Office, Morrowind, etc.) and that wasn't the case. --- Joe Brouhard <jbrouhard(a)gmail.com> wrote: > When all else fails..
